My week of Ranting

I've got sot some things on my mind. So, for the rest of the week, I'm gonna air them out. Some of them might make you think twice before you nominate me for another "nice" award. But today, I'll start with something a little bit more mild.

So, I went shopping with my mom for some maternity clothes. When you do your first shopping of the pregnancy, they give you a little "gift bag." I came home with my clothes and my gift bag. I wasn't in a big hurry to open them up because I'm not quite ready for the clothes yet.

Finally, I take the clothes out of the bag. The gift bag came falling out. It had a big lump in it and I was pretty excited to see what was in this bag. I open it up to find...a baby bottle. Ok, toss that aside, surely there must be something for nursing moms in here. Babies R Us guide, Fischer Price baby gear guide, coupons for Disney books & clocks with the kids names on them, and that's it. Nothing for nursing moms at all. Now, I realize that they only give away things that companies give to them. So, if a company doesn't give them nursing products to give away, then they don't have it to give. But still, I was disappointed. I mean, a good portion of the nursing things that I buy come from that store, purely out of convenience. Let me tell you something maternity store, after I have this baby, I'll still be shopping for things that can be bought in your store, mothers who bottle feed, will not. Where's the love? Nothing. I don't want much, a disposable nursing pad or two. Something. Throw me a bone here!

Anyway, I know this is small, but it kind of ticked me off.

Good point, sister! I'd send them an email! I still find it humorous that everytime I go into the maternity store to buy my nursing bras and I'm wearing Gray in a sling, the salesperson always asks where I got my sling and that so many people come in asking if they sell them. I always suggest that maybe they should just start selling them already! There's money to be made there!

Ridiculous! All kinds of promos without REAL stuff to help. What about a few diapers? Wipes? A coupon for Starbucks? Free baby food offer? You know, REAL MOM STUFF!!!

URG!

I can relate to the frustration. I felt the same way everytime I bought diapers at Kroger and got a formula coupon! Apparently, baby=bottle, at least in the minds of the formula companies, and, unfortunately, they have LOTS of money!

It was the same way when I registered with Babies R Us... everything in our gift was focused on a bottle fed baby! :) Go ahead and vent! :)

venting on blogs is totally ok! Let it all out. We agree with you!

Your blog=your right to vent.

Although I didn't breast feed, I can totally understand.

I have a question, being that I was unable to breast feed. My friend is however, what the heck is a breast shield? and where does one find them? She has to go buy them from the hospital?? I'm clueless, I thought you all might know.

~yours truly,
the milkless mom

Agreed on the frustration. Though if I'd been thrown a nursing pad a few years ago, I would have been like "HUHHHH?"

Whoa - you mean that you get a gift bag when shopping for pregnancy clothes? Boy do I ever feel ripped off as you get squat up here where I live. Nada - for either you nor the baby.

But, I do have to say that I agree with your frustration, the gift bag should cater to all options when feeding a newborn.

Great point!!! Nursing moms do still shop there, as bottle moms don't! You should really tell them that!!! Bravo!
