Take Two

Ok, so I already posted- and deleted that post for today. I've remembered what I actually wanted to post about. Thank you Lori for commenting on my pretty dull post from earlier.

Last week, I told you all I took my glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. Here's the rest of the story...

I had been fasting since midnight the night before. My appointment was at 8:30 am. I walked in, signed in, and had a seat in the waiting room. It was a very busy day in the midwife's office. Person after person walked in and person after person got ushered back to see the midwives. Finally, at 9:30 I walked up to the desk and informed the lady that I had been sitting there an hour waiting to do my glucose test. She had no idea I was even out there. After a little bit of scrambling, they discovered that somehow, my file had been sent to the bottom of the pile and forgotten about. I was immediately taken care of.

With my first two babies, I always had to wait at least an hour, maybe two for my appointments. Every visit. With my third, it wasn't that bad, but there was usually some kind of wait. With this one, I have never been left out in the waiting room for more than 10 min. I also had to see a different midwife that day instead of the one I usually see. That mixed with some other things and by the time I got home, I told Scott I was ready to find a new care provider, but I didn't do anything about it.

Yesterday, I got a card in the mail from the midwife's office. It was an apology note for misplacing my file and leaving me in the office for an hour along with an Applebee's gift card! It was signed by the office manager.  I was shocked! I adored my previous midwife with the last baby, but not one word was ever spoken to me about wait times. I had never seen behavior like this from any kind of Dr.'s office before. It was awesome!

By the way, is anyone as excited as I am that the season premiere of Lost is on tonight?!?!

3rd Trimester

We are now at 29 weeks. I can officially welcome myself to the 3rd trimester. Does this pregnancy seem to be flying by to anyone else? Of course, I know that this trimester is the longest (or at least it seems that way). The realities that I am going to be giving birth soon are coming at me. I am so excited to see my little girl though. We are checking things off our list and the nesting has begun. Little things like hanging hooks in the laundry room to hang the boys backpacks and jackets go a long way to make this pregnant mamma feel good. Next on my list is clearing out one of Ethan's dressers to make room for all the pink. Well, first we're going to refinish the dresser before we refill it, right honey? I've got Goodwill piles and take a peek at BabiesRUs.com  and the Motherwear site daily to make some of my final decisions. Oh yes, and weekly I stop by here, one of my favorite pregnancy websites to check on the progress of our little one. No, we still don't have a name yet.

Is it Tuesday yet?

This is our first time living in a state that does primary elections during a presidential election. This is all new stuff for us, but OH MY GOODNESS. We get AT LEAST 10 phone calls a day from John McCain and Mitt Romney (and their cohorts). After the first five I wanted to scream "I GOT IT ALREADY!" It's really frustrating to be interrupted in everything I do, to hear a recording of someone (even one from a Sheriff in Arizona) telling me about the candidates and where they stand on each issue. Right now I'm thinking of voting for the ones who don't call just cuz I want to be left alone! The primary here in FL is tomorrow. I'm hoping after that, I can safely answer my phone again.

Flying High

On Monday of this week, I had my glucose and iron tests for this pregnancy. As some of you know, I have had gestational diabetes in previous pregnancies. The trend is that it should only get worse with each pregnancy. My midwife told me that they would call me if there were any problems with any of my tests. I have been praying so much that I would not have gestational diabetes this time around. It is so bothersome to say the least.

This morning when the phone rang and I saw on the caller ID that it was my midwife's office, my heart and shoulders sank.  I answered the phone and she told me that my iron was low. The midwife wanted me to take a prescription iron pill right away. I asked her, "what about my sugar levels?" She said, "Um, let me check. Your sugar levels are fine." So then I asked, "can you tell me what the number is?" "110" Anything over 140 is when there is cause for alarm and I'd have to take the 3 hour test.

I am so very excited right now! I know that this is because...

1. A lot of prayer

2. Walking 2 miles a day to take the boys to school

3. Being careful of what I eat (making myself have eggs and fresh fruit every morning for breakfast, etc)

This year since we've moved here to Florida really has been the year of God making our dreams come true!
