up to our elbows in you-know-what
our little Aisling has survived a week in our house of boys. She is not one to sit quietly and let them have all the attention either. Right now her days and nights are a bit backwards but we're working on it. Last night she thought that from 1-3am would be a fabulous time to stay away and cry. Clearly the house was just too quiet and peaceful for her. Hence my absence from the blogging world.
Today she had her first dr. appointment since the hospital. Birth weight: 9.02lbs, leaving hospital weight: 8.11lbs, 8 days old weight: 9.12lbs. Clearly we've gotten the nursing thing down pat.
Last night her little cord came off which means today she had her first real bath. The boys were very interested and that started a whole new conversation about boy parts and girl parts. The consensus between the boys was that although she does not have a "bootie" like they do, she can still pee out of her butt. Yuck.
Praise the Lord for our friends here in Florida! We've had dinner delivered to us every day since we left the hospital and it will remain that way until this Friday. I don't know how I could've handled making dinner for my family this whole time. Also, our dear neighbors on this street (99% of them are retired) came over to shower us with outfits and blessings for our little one. Hopefully I'll be back in the blog world soon.
Our Story
Thanks to you all for your wonderful love and support during this crazy time!
Here is the story of how our little Aisling came to be born...
Tuesday morning Ethan woke up early and came right into our room. Scott went to get Ethan his drink and I started to feel some contractions. I knew they weren't braxton hicks but I didn't want to sound any alarms. We decided to keep the boys home for our family resting day. Since Ethan had been throwing up the night before, we decided that he and I would stay in bed for the day and snuggle and snooze. I had contractions the entire day. Some every 30 min. Some every 10 min. I still knew they weren't braxton hicks but they were totally bearable.
I have to say here that this was the BEST way to labor. At home, snuggled in my bed with my baby. No monitors strapped to my belly, no one poking me and "checking progress." Around 4pm the contractions really started getting stronger and I got out my birthing ball. After Scott got the boys in bed (around 8pm) they started getting a good pattern of every 4-10 min apart. I have to add that at this point my husband was scrubbing my kitchen and our bathrooms for me- cuz he's that awesome.
Although I said I wouldn't go in until my water broke, Scott thought it would be a good idea if we just go ahead and go in then, instead of in the middle of the night when it was an emergency. So we called our friend to come over.
We left the house a little after 9pm. As soon as we got in the car, the contractions got crazy strong. Like, I don't remember them ever being that strong. Scott says he had his car up to 120 on the way. We got to the hospital and they checked me for the first time at around 10pm. I was at 7. For those of you who have known me for my other births, this is a HUGE miracle. I've always had to be induced and it's always taken me forever to dilate at all. Ten minutes later I was at 9. At 10:59 my little 9lb.02 oz. 21 1/2 inch Aisling Elizabeth was born! There were no drugs, no anything. There was no time for any of that. In all honesty, it was the most painful and brutal delivery of any of my others. But, it was only an hour and in so many ways it was an answer to all my prayers.
The first thing I said when they laid her on my tummy was, "somebody check her and make sure she really IS a GIRL!"
We are all at home now and doing well.

Aisling Elizabeth
She's here! I'm so proud of Sheryl... it's an amazing story, but I'll let her tell it. For now, here are some pictures of Aisling Elizabeth: 9 lbs (yep!) 21.5 inches long. Thanks for all your love and support!
For Reals This Time
I've been having contractions all day. They are 3-4 min. apart right now and oh mama are they strong! Friends are on the way to stay with the boys and we are headed out.
Family Resting Day
Today we are circling the wagons for our family. It seems like our life has been a bit of a slugfest lately. So, we have declared today family resting day. The boys aren't going to school. Scott has put me on "bed rest." Ethan stopped throwing up last night around 9:30 and actually had a good night of sleep. We're all hanging out in our jammies, loving on each other and just taking a breather. Things will be crazy again soon enough.
