Hotel Living; or Microwave Popcorn for Breakfast
Tonight is our first night in our new house. Everyone is in bed and we seem to have everything except some elusive sheets for the bunkbed. I'm sure they'll turn up. Hopefully, tomorrow, we will get through the box with the cords and post some pictures.
So, this past week we have been living in hotels as we traveled to Florida. It is very difficult to live with a 5, 3 and 1year old in hotel rooms. First of all, once you get the very tired 1 yr. old to sleep, it is extremely difficult to keep the 5 & 3 year old quiet enough to keep the 1 year old asleep. We did get "suites" every time. Twice that meant a king size bed in a separate bedroom with a fold out couch for he kids in the living room. That was very nice. But the other times, it was like a studio apartment with the king size bed and fold out couch all in one room, oh yes, and they all had kitchens or kitchenettes. I have several friends with more than 3 children and ladies, my hat goes off to you because I don't know how on earth you do it!
We let the pack n play go on the moving truck (which, now that I think about it, I don't remember seeing come off the truck, hmmmm) anyway. With no pack n play that means that baby sleeps with mom and dad in the king size bed (we're used to a queen so it's no big deal). But, the baby REFUSES to sleep with covers on. So, when we'd pull the covers up on us, he'd squirm to the top of the bed to get away from them. Poor little guy kept wacking his head on the headboard. It was so awesome (Note the sarcasm) when he'd roll over and realize it was me laying beside him and start to cry REALLY loudly until I would nurse him. As if to say, "nurse me and nobody has to wake up the other two, don't nurse me and everybody's up at 3AM!" So, we would nurse. Every. Two. Hours. Honestly, this kid used to be a great sleeper!
The second to last morning was THE WORST! We had been going to bed later and later every night so the kids were getting up later and later (that part was awesome!!). Well, I finally opened my eyes at about 9:45AM (again totally awesome!!) by then we had missed the hotel breakfast. I knew that wasn't going to go over well. Being the one that takes the longest to get ready in my family, I thought I'd get up and start getting ready so that when the kids got up we'd be that much closer to getting out the door to find something to eat. Soon Luke woke up. Let's just say that he was less than pleased that we missed the hotel breakfast. He couldn't think of anything worse than going to a restaurant for breakfast. During his protests and telling me to "just go downstairs and get breakfast" and "I am sick of waiting for breakfast sick of it, sick of it, SICK OF IT!" and then, "this is making me furious!" the baby started to stir and with my absence in the bed, fell right out on his little blonde head!
With all the screaming going on in the room I did whatever I could to regain peace and quiet. I popped some popcorn in the microwave and let them eat that for breakfast. We finally arrived at Bob Evans for our real breakfast around noon. That is by far the latest my kids have ever had breakfast. At least when I came back the room was all clean!!
Before I had children, rolling out of bed at 9:45 and getting to breakfast at Bob Evans by noon was par for the course for this lady, sigh, a taste of the good old days.
