Gotcha Day
On October 1, 1985 my brother was born. I was 7 years old. It was a very exciting time for us all. Tragically, that following January, he passed away. Five years later, when I was 12, we adopted my brother, Nathan. It was a whirlwind adoption. After going through all the requirements for adoption, the wait began.
There was a woman in our church. Her daughter was a foster mom to several children. This woman would bring the foster children to church with her sometimes. One particular Sunday, the lady brought her foster grandchildren to church and dropped them off in their classes. While in the nursery, one of the workers prayed over the little 2 year old boy (knowing that he was a foster child) that she would see him again in that church.
Not much later, my parents got a phone call. There was a little boy that we could adopt, however, the foster parents were needing him to be placed right away. That was Friday. On Monday we picked up Nathan, the little boy who had been prayed over in our church nursery.
It was Monday, October 1st. The day we call, Gotcha Day. We picked up our Nathan, whose name means "gift" and whose birthday is on Christmas Day. What once was a sad reminder of a child lost, is now a celebration day of a child gained.
Someone recently said to me that they believe that God is very minimally involved in our lives. To me, this is evidence that God is involved in the details and that God is into making good out of the bad.
Happy Gotcha Day Nathan!

Oct. 1st is a very sad day for one of my closest friends Shawna. Last year, on 10/1 her baby passed away from SIDS while she was at a bridal shower. And 10/1 is her birthday. So, on her 25th birthday last year she lost her second born son. So pray for her tonight.
I'm so glad I don't have to live in a world where God is minimally involved!
