Our Christmas

Well, this year was a great Christmas for the Bane family. Once again, when the odds were stacked against us that we would have $0 for gifts, God (and a loving family) came through and we had enough to buy gifts for everyone with some left over! God is so good! This has happened the last 4 years now. I call it our Christmas miracle.

It was so much fun this year, not having to go to church. I know how that sounds, but for the last 6 years my husband was in a pastoral position where Christmas time was the busiest time of year. As I've mentioned before, last year was the WORST! Anyway, this year we were able to attend ALL family festivities, we stayed in our jammies till noon on Christmas day, and there was not a bad attitude or grumble among us. A complete 180 from last year! I am thankful for our year off just to be with family and enjoy the holiday rather than schedule it to death. I know next year we will have services to attend but, 1) we will have a new Sr. Pastor who does things completely different and 2) Scott has promised me that we will not go through that again, if we want to go home for Christmas we will, if we want to stay and do the church thing, we will. Praise the Lord for that! It was such a blessing to me to have Christmas this way this year!

Ok, so funny stories:

At my aunts house on Christmas Eve we were all gathered around the Christmas tree (there were 32 of us) waiting to open presents. My grandma (the loving matriarch) wanted everyone to be quiet while she told the Christmas story before the present opening. Everyone is quiet, listening impatiently as my grandma tells the story. Ben's hand goes up, my uncle says "Ben has a question." Grandma stops telling the story and says "yes Ben?" Ben looks around at everyone staring at him. I think, "oh my goodness what is he going to say?" Then he says,"Um, can we open presents now?" The whole room busts out in laughter- not just the small giggles, the hard, loud laughter, it was very funny. Immediately Ben starts sobbing, "they're laughing at me!!!" Then I say, "everyone stop laughing! He's crying!" Ok, back to the Christmas story and on with the presents. Fortunately, a well wrapped transformer saved the night for Ben and all was well.

At Scott's mom's house, we had all eaten dinner and moved downstairs for present opening. Kids go first. Ben opens his, he loves his present. Luke's turn. Luke opens one corner of his package. It was a Disney Store box. Have you seen these? They have the Character's faces all along the side. So, Luke opens one corner and he sees the picture of Cinderella's head and says, "This is a girls thing! Ooohhh, I got a girls thing!" It was so funny! We just had to laugh and then encouraged him to open the entire present!

Hope you all had a great holiday!

Glad to hear you had a great time. By the way...Matt has done that before (cry after we are laughing at something else).

Awh. Poor Ben. :) I feel for the little guy despite how cute that must have been.

Glad to hear that you had such a beautiful Christmas!

I am glad your Christmas was so enjoyable. We served for many years as associate pastors and it was brutal on the family to say the least. I am so happy to hear your husband recognizes that his family is first. We have been Sr. Pastors for several years now and we are very sensitive to our staff and their families. Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to reach the lost for Christ, but not at the expense of our own family.
