A Laundry Mishap
On Friday afternoon, Ben came home from school. I, as usual, opened his backpack to get out papers, check for notes from the teacher, etc. Imagine my surprise when I unzipped the backpack, opened it up, only to see starting right back at me, on top of it all, a pair of Ben's underwear!
Me: Ben, why is your underwear in your backpack?
Ben: Mrs. Carpenter (his teacher) told me to put it in there.
M: (pause) Well, are you wearing underwear right now?
B: (lifts his shirt and moves his pants to check) Yes.
M: (pause again) Well, where did these come from?
B: I don't know. I was sitting at my chair and I just saw them there laying on the floor right beside me.
M: They were just laying on the floor beside your chair? (as I examine them to make sure that they are indeed Ben's)
B: Yes, I don't know how they got there but Mrs. Carpenter told me to put them in my backpack.
Imagining this scene had me laughing to tears. The only thing I can come up with is that the underwear must've gotten stuck in his pant leg and fell out at school. As funny as this seemed to me, I'm so glad this happened in Kindergarten and not like, 7th grade.

I remember being in junior high , being at the swimming pool in a changing booth. But apparently I had dropped my underwear on my way to the booth. So while drying myself off, I hear the teacher asking out loud who had lost this underwear (while walking by the booths and holding it up high) and reading the brand etc... I had very plain simple underwear and felt so embarrassed to call out loud that it was mine. You are so self-concious at that age!

I wonder what the teacher was thinking when she saw the underwear on the floor??? She probably wanted to ask, "do you have on your underwear?" but these days you can't say that for fear of being arrested. Teaching little ones there is always a funny story to tell.
