The Sounds of My House
Last night I was putting the baby to bed. We were having some quiet (although very brief) snuggle time. I listened to all the sounds of my house. In my room I could hear Baby Einsteins (World Animals) playing. Every night after Ethan's bath we watch this DVD while I get him all lotioned up and into his PJ's. It's the only way he will lay still and happy during that time. In the boys room I could hear a transformers DVD playing. It's quite the opposite of the Baby Einstein's DVD. One is calming, peaceful and educational, the other is guys fighting and crashing into one another. I had to laugh at that. I could hear Luke (already done with his bath and in his jammies) playing with his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, TMNT to the true fans. Finally, I could hear the shower running. My big boy Ben was in there, all by himself, washing his own hair, suddsing up his own little toes.
I silently marveled as I held and rocked my little baby. How can it be possible that the big boy who is into transformers and taking showers by himself used to be, only yesterday it seems, just like this little one in my arms. Splashing in the tub, then wrapped in a hoodie towel and put into footie pajamas. How quickly he went from lullabies and a freshly diapered butt to using the "man's shampoo" (aka his daddy's shampoo) and eating peanuts "like a man" (out of the jar while sitting on the couch).
Someday my house will be very quiet, just my husband and I. I think at first I will enjoy it, but that will fade quickly and I will miss these days that I have right now with my 3 noisy little boys. One more thing of note, today we were outside and the boys walked around picking every dandelion they could find and then gave them to me. They do this every time we go outside and they see a "flower." I love it. It might be my favorite thing in the whole world. I know they are only weeds but it makes me feel extremely special and loved. I hope someday they do this with their wives, with real flowers that is.

This was a really sweet post.

So cute! They do get to be "big boys" so quickly...
Then of course ... if you are missing the mewling cries of a baby around the house, you could always try for #4.
