My Turn to Hoopla

Ok, so you've all seen this ahem hoopla going around. Well, now it's my turn thanks to Jen at More Than a Single Mom. Can I just take a min. to say how much she amazes me?!?! She works TWO jobs, goes to school, and she's a mom on top of all of that. It makes me tired just to think of all that she has to do in a day! Props to you Jen.

Ok, back to the hoopla. Here's the details incase you don't have them memorized yet...

Here are the instructions:1. List 12 random things about yourself that has to do with Christmas.
2. Please refer to it as a hoopla and not the dreaded "m" word.
3. You have to specifically tag someone when your're done, no leaving
it open.
4. Do it quickly, Lets get as many people tagged as possible.

1. I love being pregnant at Christmas time. It's so much easier for me to remember the REAL meaning of Christmas when I've got my own baby growing inside of me.

2. When I was growing up, my brother and I put up the Christmas tree by ourselves for many years. My parents always had Thanksgiving at our house. They would then go out of town for a rest that weekend and my brother and I would stay home and put up the tree by ourselves.

3. Also when I was younger we would string popcorn and put it on our Christmas tree. Since I've been married, my husband thinks this is weird and gross and does NOT want it on our tree.

4. My birthday is 3 days after Christmas (in case you forgot) and my brother's is on Christmas Day. Yep, we got the shaft when it comes to birth dates.

5.  Oh Holy Night is a favorite Christmas song for both my husband and I.

6. My second favorite is Mary Did You Know.

Whew! This is harder than it looks!

7. We don't do outdoor lights, although every year I have dreams of a great outdoor display. It just has never happened. Maybe someday.

8. This year our children have already opened their presents from us. We knew we would let them open our presents before our trip but they wore us down. They've been open for over a week already!

9. We don't do the Santa thing with our kids. We've told them the real story of St. Nicholas but they know the presents under the tree come from friends and family. Although this year, Luke has decided that he believes in Santa no matter what we tell him. That's fine with us too.

10. I know I've blogged about this before, but I don't like going to church on Christmas morning, or Christmas Eve. I think Christmas should be spent at home, in your jammies, with your family. I know probably everyone will disagree with me on this one but I just really don't like it. This year I will enjoy not having to be in a church for any of these services probably for the last time for many years.

11. We usually don't start our Christmas shopping until around the 20th. This year it's the 19th and I'm almost completely done!! Woo Hoo!

12. I love the traditions of Christmas. Making a gingerbread house, decorating the tree the same way every year, visiting family, I love it all.

Now I tag Lori over at Glass Half Full

I understand the going to church thing. We have three family we are trying to fit in at Christmas time, I don't have time to go back to church.
Do the Christmas service on Sunday so I don't have to return.
I with you girl!
Now if I could some how dodge the family gatherings too.

This year we will be spending Christmas Eve with family and won't be at a church service- probably for the 1st time in a long time- I must admit I do enjoy the services when we can go, but I love the freedom of not being *required* to be there and not being looked down upon if you don't go. I hope you enjoy your Christmas Eve, too!

We don't do outside stuff either, and as far as gifts, my girls don't even know I've bought them anything. My trick, I hide stuff in plain sight. Hang any clothes in my closet (but don't let the tags show), they never look at my clothes. We never did the Santa thing either, but they've never been ones to search out their gifts.
I kind of like church on Christmas Eve, but mostly because it's become a tradition. We go if Christmas falls on a Sunday too, but only because we usually don't have any other plans on Christmas.

We don't do outdoor lights or anything either (except for a wreath that I keep forgetting to put up this year). The part about not stringing popcorn b/c hubby thinks it is gross is funny; sounds like something that would happen around here.

Have a great trip home!

This was great HOOPLA!! I love reading about what everyone does on the Holidays!! I do not, and probably never will go to church on Christmas Day, I love love love spending it with my family and we do a big breakfast and everyone knows my house will have very lemonny eggs benedict! I used to go to Midnight Mass and have given that up in the last 10 years because I want to be with my husbands extended family this night every year!! I guess if you can spend this time with your family I think you should and if everyone else is at church at least you know where they are!! I love the popcorn stringing I just started it last year with my kids and they love it, it does go on the trees in there rooms but I think you will be enjoying this tradition with your children very very soon, no matter how gross Scott thinks it is!

I agree about spending time with the family instead of a church service, especially when some family doesn't go to church. It is nice when ALL the family is together in church, but that's almost impossible with us, especially when some family members go to another church. I think if you can go the Sunday before Christmas is great, to sing Christmas Carols and hear the Christmas Story. Good Hoopla....Have a Safe trip back to Indiana! Hope you have great traveling weather.

How are popcorn chains gross? They're awesome! They make me feel like Ma Ingalls and I AM ALLERGIC TO POPCORN!
I love Christmas Eve service, actually. Then we come home to hot chocolate and birthday cake and unwrapping some new pajamas. It's sweet!

Awwwwww, that was the SWEETEST introduction in your hoopla. Thanks, it meant a lot. I don't get that pat on the back that often. Thank you! Can't wait to see you next Wed.
I'll be on this today. I just got over a stomach bug that hit me on the way back home from our church's midweek service. TALK ABOUT A LONG TRIP HOME!!!!!

I love the songs you picked. Love them too!

I never thought of it, but it must be different to be pregnant on Christmas. How wonderful is that! :).

I am not done shopping yet, as a matter of fact, as soon as I hit the button here, I go out to buy another present for Jan.

Personally I do really like going to church on Christmas though...on all the holidays. It's a good reminder for myself that Christmas is not only delicious food, presents, cosyness and family. As a kid I used to love to go to church at midnight. Going to church in the middle of the cold freezing night, listining to this amazing choir in the old decorated gothic church and having a hot chocolate milk afterwards. wonderful! I stopped going to the midnight service once I started playing the flute in the service at 8 AM (choke...yes 8 AM) and at 10 AM to accompagny the youth choir. But now the choir does not exist anymore and I have moved. I am going for the first time to the Christmas service here in Leuven in the old nearby abbey and my parents will join and I am very excited about it!

Do you really teach your children about St Nicolas or Sinterklaas as we call him??? do you celebrate the European tradition as well on Dec 6th? I did a couple of posts on him this year in the beginning of December and http://signalsminusnoise.blogspot.com/ dit a wonderful series of explaining the tradition from an expat view.

Have a great holiday season with your family and relatives! enjoy....and hope to see you soon again in blogging world. God Bless you, Cheryl.
