Family Resting Day
As you may or may not know, our family has and is still in the midst of big changes.
For 6 years my husband was in full-time ministry as an assistant Pastor in Indiana. We've recently moved to Ohio. My husband is not currently on staff at a church, he is working with Steve Sjogren and together, we are all going to start a church together in the Tampa area. So, in June, we will be moving to Florida and hubby will be in full time ministry again. For now though, we are enjoying a little "sabbatical" if you will from the heavy schedule demands of working at a church.
The church that we go to in Ohio offers Saturday evening services. This works for our schedule because we are NOT morning people, and with three kids under age 5 it takes us quite a while to get everybody dressed, packed, and loaded. An evening service allows us to take as much time as we need to get going.
This means that on Sunday, we have our Family Resting Day. There are things that we all do everyday that are unpleasant. For instance, a strikers protest goes into effect every day when I make the boys do the unthinkable- get dressed! Don't even mention brushing teeth or emotions will run wild! If they only knew the crap (literally) that I have to clean up every day! Anyway, on Family Resting Day, we don't do any of those things. We stay in our jammies if we want to and we don't do anything that doesn't HAVE to be done. I fold no laundry, vacuum no floors, scrub no toilets, etc. It's fantastic! The boys love it! I got the idea obviously from the Biblical Day of Rest. Ben coined the phrase "family resting day" when he was asking me what day it was.
I was just reading in Dr. Phil's book "Family Matters" that it is important to spend family time together (duh, how many millions did he make off of this?) like a game night. I think this qualifies.
What do you do with your family?
