Tuesdays Top Three

Top Three Dates I've Ever Been On

1) One night, for Valentine's Day, I went to my mother-in-law's house to drop off Ben (our only child at the time) and get ready for our date. I think it helps add mystery if you don't see each other getting ready-anyway. Scott came and picked me up and took me to- our house! When I walked in, the whole house was filled with candle light and there was a pathway of candles and rose petals from the door to the table where he had laid out the dinner that he made and put in our fine China. We ate dinner in the candle light to romantic music. I won't share what happened next but it was a wonderful night!

2) When we were first married, Scott had Mondays off. One Sunday night after church got out, Scott just said,"let's go to Chicago to spend the night." So, he whisked me away with nothing but the shirts on our backs to the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago. We enjoyed a wonderful night and paid WAY too much for toiletries from the gift shop the next morning. Then we spent the day at the art museum in our church clothes! It was great fun! This, of course, was BEFORE we had children.

3)  While in college, Scott once took me to St. Paul Minnesota (the neighboring city) to Orchestra Hall to see the orchestra play. Then we went to a VERY nice restaurant across the street. This was very special to me because I love watching orchestra's play. I used to be in the orchestra in high school, (I know, I know, that qualifies me as a dork). I also LOVE to go to fancy restaurants. It was great!

And, of course, our honeymoon was one gigantic great date as well as our trip to Hawaii. Got some of your own? Share with the group!

We stayed at the Palmer House Hilton one time....my husband's work paid....and we walked into the lobby in our jeans and I looked at my husband and the other couple we were with and I said "We are way under dressed for the lobby". It was Christmas time and the hotel was GORGEOUS!

But this post wasn't about the Palmer House Hilton....so I'd like to say....what a sweet post!

Our first Valentines Day as a married couple my husband sent me out for "something" and when I got home the whole house was decorated and steaks were grilling. This was special because our first baby was 2 months old and I wouldn't leave him nor did I want to go somewhere since every place would be so busy.

Hmmm ... after all of these years, I can't say that my husband and I have had a particularly romantic date. My husband is ... err .... what you would call romantically challenged. :)

When I reflect on the special times, things such as playing in volleyball tournaments together or curling bonspiels comes to mind first. Just last week we were talking about how we missed doing those things this year (due to my pregnancy) and how much we are looking forward to being able to do those activities again together next season.

Due to my hubby's job, I don't get to see him much for nine months of the year, so when we do get time to spend together, it is of immense quality and an appreciation of one another.

Sigh .... now looking back on this ... perhaps I should be hinting to him that we need to make an effort to get out more (insert wink here).

Great post Sheryl! Your dates sound incredibly precious and full of love.

Steve and I are not the romantic type. We are not spontaneous....into fancy restaurants...or like driving into "the city". Golly -- I make us sound like boring fuddy duddies!!!

Hey, weren't you in band, too? You know what that means..!

We're not really romantic either, as far as dates go, but our wedding/honeymoon trip to Hawaii was pretty much the high-point of my life. It was so wonderful, we're planning on taking a trip every year around our anniversary.

Funny romantic story: A few years ago, when Mark and I were dating, I told him that I wanted more romance and surprises. So, on Valentine's Day that year, he sent me flowers at work. Where we work TOGETHER. Before ANYONE KNEW we were seeing each other. Did I mention that he was AT HOME with the flu that day? BOO YAH. He outed me on Valentine's Day, and he wasn't even there to take the heat with me! Guess what the card said: "Romance and surprises, huh?" I don't think I've ever blushed that much in my life, especially in the office!

Jeff is very romantic! I can't pick just one story! Our honeymoon in Paris... read our Sweetest Day story, too...nights out at French bistros (we still do this when we can!)... surprise gifts... wonderful cards... and he's even teaching the boys how to give great thoughtful gifts!

Our "dates" used to consist of my now husband playing computer games or coding while I sat on his bed and talked at him for 9 hours. Now they are pretty similar except now we occasionally watch a rented movie, usually anime. :)

My husband has been surprising me lately with his out-of-character displays of love. He is not what most people would call terribly romantic. He has his own way of showing his feelings. For instance, every year I suggest that it would be great to put lights on the outside of the house for Christmas (I'm a very festive person...he is not). The past fews years I made an attempt,on the bushes, but it was pretty pathetic. Last night my husband (formerly known as the Grinch or Scrooge) went to 3 different Walgreens to get the clips and lights needed for our roof. Without me asking! That is love! He even went the extra mile, and when one set was not working, went up on the roofat 10:30 at night (crazy, I know) to take them down so he could exchange them today. I was sound asleep and didn't find this out until this morning.
All I can say, and those of you who know me well will know this is true, is that I've been praying for years! God is allowing me to see his answer each and every day!
Sheryl, thanks for todays entry. I needed a reminder of what is important. It was a horrible day at work, and I'm totally searching the house for ANYTHING chocolate!
